The ability to self soothe without any of those addictive tendencies is of primary importance in this day and age where we are distracted the whole time, where socially it’s acceptable to be on our phones all the time. Our phones are a massive self soother. The minute we feel any discomfort internally, even if we don’t cognitise it and realise what’s happening, we might reach for our phones to self soothe.
So the ability to self soothe directly without props, without addictive tendencies, without external influences is an important one because it means we are the captain of our own ships.
