VIDEO: Clip of my Podcast for the Free Online Learning Retreat on Grief & Trauma

Jan Normanton • May 16, 2022

Check out this clip of my podcast for the Online Learning Retreat, in which I explain about Trauma Discharge Therapy, one of the treatments I offer and am passionate about.

Trauma Discharge Therapy is a type of massage treatment underpinned by neuroscience regarding nervous system regulation. As a client, this is a beautiful, relaxing, nurturing treatment that affords you the opportunity to come into safety, to feel safe within and with me supporting you. This treatment allows for trauma release and for your nervous system to replace the imprint of trauma with safety. In the absence of trauma, your resilience can begin to flourish.

Trauma can occur in so many ways – we may think of trauma being a terrible one off incident such as a car accident or a violent attack or ongoing such as war.

Other examples of trauma may be a child facing circumstances they are unable to escape from over time such as bullying at school or neglect at home. Trauma can occur for an adult facing domestic abuse. We can become traumatised second hand through witnessing trauma such as watching the horrors war being played out on our TV screens day in day out.

Trauma occurs simply when we feel overwhelmed and unable to deal with the circumstances we are faced with.

Trauma mostly involves loss or fear of loss of something of value to ourselves – loss of life, a limb, freedom, sense of safety, identity and a sense of self even.

Trauma can impact us in so many ways, often these might be pernicious, affecting us mentally, emotionally, energetically as well as physically.

We may feel overwhelmed and unable to deal with life, we may suffer from depression and/or anxiety, we may feel perpetually exhausted, suffer from insomnia, and have unexplained symptoms such as stomach problems, inexplicable pain in the body, low immunity causing slow wound healing/recurrent flus/minor infections. These are just a few of the ways trauma shows up in the body and mind.

If you identify yourself has dealing a number of health issues with no obvious cause, it may be that your system is overwhelmed and struggling to maintain your health and wellbeing due to an overload of trauma.

You can watch the whole podcast as part of the online Grief & Trauma Learning Retreat taking place from 20 May.
